List of suicide sites

The following is a list of current and historic sites frequently chosen to commit suicide, usually by jumping. Some of the sites listed have installed suicide barriers, and other precautions.

Exact numbers of victims are sometimes difficult to determine, as many jurisdictions and media agencies have ceased collecting statistics and reporting suicides at common sites, in the belief that the reporting may encourage others.

• Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, California – over 1,500 suicides^[1][2]
• Aokigahara forest, Mount Fuji, Japan – Up to 78 suicides a year;^[3] thought of as the second most popular suicide location in the world^[4]
• Beachy Head, East Sussex, England, United Kingdom – 20 suicides a year^[5]
• Humber Bridge, Kingston-upon-Hull, England – more than 200 incidents of people jumping or falling from the bridge have taken place since it was opened in 1981 with only five surviving.^[6]
• Coronado Bridge, San Diego, California - more than 200 suicides (1972–2000) and many more after ^[7]
• Aurora Bridge, Seattle, Washington – over 230 suicides since 1932,^[8] with over 50 from 1997-2007^[9]
• Jacques Cartier Bridge, Montreal, Quebec, Canada – over 143 suicides. Suicide barriers were erected in 2003.^[10]
• Foresthill Bridge in Auburn, California – estimated 55 suicides since construction in 1973, actual number likely higher^[11][12]
• Göltzsch Viaduct, Reichenbach im Vogtland, Germany – exemplary attraction for attempting suicide in Germany,^[13] under continued supervision by the Federal Police,^[14] scene of a 2001 suicide pact that led to the 2002 documentary Teuflische Spiele ("Diabolical Games").^[15]
• Grafton Bridge, Auckland, New Zealand – suicide barriers were removed in 1996 after being in place for sixty years but replaced in 2003.^[16]
• Niagara Falls – between 1856 and 1995 there were 2,780 known suicides and there are 20–25 per year^[17]
• The Gap, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia – estimated to have roughly 50 suicides a year^[18]
• West Gate Bridge, Melbourne, Australia – Has approximately one suicide every three weeks^[19]

• Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, Nanjing, China – over 2000 suicides from 1997-2007^[20]
• Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, Wuhan, China – 24.7 suicides per year^[21]
• Cliffs of Moher, County Clare, Ireland – 17 suicides in 1998 ^[22]
• Türisalu cliff, Estonia^[23]
